Softball Falls Twice In Hawaii Paradise Classic

The Southern Miss softball team dropped two games in the Hawaii Paradise Classic today, falling 2-1 to both Texas Arlington and Hawaii.
With the win, Southern Miss starts the season 0-4 for the first time since the 2000 season. The 2000 team finished with a school record 63-13 record.
In the first game, Texas Arlington took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, thanks to a two-RBI single by Autumn Petrino.
Southern Miss made the score 2-1 in the fourth. Allison Bullard singled to start the inning, stole second, and following a walk by Jennifer Fox, went to third on a groundout by Ashley Davis. Charity Butler then scored Bullard on a RBI groundout, which also sent Fox to third. But the Lady Eagles were unable to get the game tying run across.
The Lady Eagles had an opportunity to score in the fifth, as Melissa Prouty and Ashley Brenan both singled with one out. Jessica Huerta then reached on a fielder's choice, which forced Prouty out at third and Brenan was left stranded as Bullard grounded out to end the inning.
Southern Miss had a final opportunity to get the game tying run in the seventh, as a double by Brenan got Prouty to third, who was one base with on a fielder's choice. But she would be stranded there, as Huerta struck out to end the game.
Laura Jones got the win for Texas Arlington, allowing five hits and one run, while walking one and striking out 10.
Shae Naramore (0-1) took the loss for Southern Miss, tossing two innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while walking two. Lacey Gros pitched the final four innings, allowing two hits while walking one and striking out four.
In game two, Hawaii got single runs in the second and fifth innings, thanks to RBI singles from Tanisha Milca and Kaulana Gould.
Southern Miss made the score 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, as Brenan connected on a RBI single, which scored pinch runner Courtney Kelly, who ran for Kristin Pilgrim, who started the inning with a single.
The Lady Eagles had an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh, as Butler singled with one out, but she was stranded there, as Hawaii claimed the victory.
