Southern Miss Plays Exhibition Game, Prepares For Conference Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss women's basketball team returns to action, following a short break for Christmas to host the Houston Jaguars in an exhibition game at 4:30 p.m., on Thursday, before beginning Conference USA play on Sunday against UCF in a 2 p.m., game.
The game will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (6-7) is coming off a 73-61 win over Centenary in its last non-conference game. Four Lady Eagles scored in double figures, led by Amber Eugene's 21 points. Kendra Reed and Liz Biland had 14 points, while Lauren Pittman added 13. Rachael Manuel led the team with eight rebounds and Kristin Chaney had 10 assists.
Eugene leads the team in scoring at 17.8 points per game. Emer Foley, who will miss the exhibition game because of an injury, leads the team in rebounding at 8.0 rebounds and is second in scoring at 16.4 points and Kendra Reed is averaging 14.5 points per game.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 63.5 points and 38.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 73.2 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are shooting 34.4 percent from three-point range. Reed leads the team with 24.
The Houston Jaguars were founded in 1997, as a travel team to help women basketball players continue their post collegiate career and aspire to take their playing skills to the next level of professional achievement. The Jaguars compete against some of the top Division I Colleges and Universities each year.
Head Coach Louis Ray III is in his 10th season with the organization. Brandi Jones and Ingrin Johnson lead the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game. LaToya Mills leads the team in rebounding at 9.0 rebounds per game.
