Southern Miss Postgame Notes for Tulsa Game

Postgame Notes -
* It was the sixth meeting between Southern Miss and Tulsa, the first meeting in Oklahoma since 1993. With the 20-6 loss, Southern Miss fell to 2-3-1 in the overall series.
*Southern Miss saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
*The game marked the second of two-consecutive Tuesday night games for Southern Miss. Since 1912, Southern Miss has posted a 5-4 record on Tuesday nights, including a 4-2 mark during Bower's tenure.
* Damion Fletcher ran for 110 yards on 25 carries, for the fourth-consecutive 100-yard game of his career (116, Southeastern La. (9/9), 177, NC State (9/16), 109, UCF (9/26). Fletcher became the first Golden Eagle running back to rush for over 100 yards in four-consecutive games since Derrick Nix accomplished it for the final three games of the 1998 season, 129 against Houston (11/7/98), 184 against Memphis (11/14/98) and 219 against Nevada (11/21/98) and the first game of the 1999 season, 167 against Tulane (9-6-99). Had bowl statistics counted from the 1998 season, Nix would have ran for four straight to close 1998, as he posted 122 yards against Idaho in the 1998 Humanitarian Bowl. Fletcher became the first Golden Eagle runner to post four-consecutive 100-yard performances in a season since Sam DeJarnette in 1982, 108, against Mississippi State (10-9-82), 176 against Tulane (10-16-82), 115 against Louisville (10-23-82) and 179 against Louisiana-Lafayette (10-30-82).
* Stephen Reaves had his career-best performance as a Golden Eagle tonight, completing 11-of27 passes for 98 yards, breaking his 86-yard passing performance against Southeastern La. (9/6). His passing yardages was the second most of his career, behind only his 183-yard performance against Central Michigan (9/11/04). His attempts were a career-high, breaking his 20 attempt against Notre Dame (9/18/04).
*Jeremy Young threw an interception in the first quarter tonight, his first in three games, after throwing three in the season-opening game at Florida. He completed 3-of-12 passes for 25 yards.
* Martavius Prince recovered a fumble in the first quarter, the first of his career. It was the team's third fumble recovery of the season. Prince also finished with one tackle for loss tonight and has posted at least one tackle for loss in each game this season. He leads the team with eight tackles for loss.
* Darren McCaleb connected on a 36-yard field goal and a 29-yarder in the second quarter. His carrer tally now stands at 61-of-74 field goals and 8-for-10 this season.
*The Golden Eagle defense capitalized on a fumble recovery in the first quarter, turning it into three points. Southern Miss has now forced 10 turnovers on the season, turning those into 50 points.
*Josh Barnes caught a season-high four passes for 37 yards tonight, breaking his previous high of two in the season-opening game against Florida (9/2/06).
*Conrad Chanove caught a career-best two passes for nine yards.
*Junior Ryan Watson made his first career start at nose tackle, finishing with three total tackles (one solo, two assists).
*Gerald McRath finished with a career-high 10 tackles tonight (six solos, four assists). It marked the first time a Southern Miss defender finished with over 10 tackles in a game this season.
* Offensive lineman George Batiste made his 40th straight start tonight.
* The game marked Southern Miss' lowest point output in a Conference USA game since winning 3-0 over UAB in Hattiesburg (9/29/01). The six points marked the fewest since the team scored three against Alabama (10/16/04).
* It was also the first game without a Southern Miss touchdown since the dropping a 27-3 decision at Alabama (10/16/04).
* Southern Miss was penalized one time tonight, the fewest times it has been penalized in a league game dating back to 1996.
* Southern Miss is now 43-22 all-time in televised games, including a 36-31 mark on television under Bower. Southern Miss is now 20-17 on televised road games all-time, including a 18-16 mark under Bower.
* Southern Miss finished with a season low 243 yards of total offense tonight -- the previous low of 273 coming last Tuesday against UCF.
*Tonight's captains for Southern Miss were Jeremy Young, Jasper Faulk and Tokumbo Abanikanda.
