Memphis Sweeps Southern Miss In Volleyball, 3-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis placed three players in double-digit kills, leading the Tigers past Southern Miss, 3-0 (30-13, 30-24, 30-27), in volleyball action on Sunday afternoon.
Southern Miss dropped to 13-12 overall and 5-5 in league play, while Memphis improved to 21-4 and 7-3.
Angela Hlavaty led Southern Miss with 11 kills and Maia Ivanova had 13 digs. Memphis' Shelby Burton tallied 13 kills, followed by Ashley Liford with 12 and Sarah Bury added 11, while Christen Clayton recorded 16 digs.
Memphis jumped out to an early lead in game to defeat Southern Miss 30-13. The Tigers put down 20 kills as compared to nine by Southern Miss.
Southern Miss lead early in game two, only to see Memphis use a 9-1 run to take the lead for good on its way to a 30-24 win.
Hlavaty pounded down eight kills in game three, but it wasn't enough in keeping the Lady Tigers from a 30-27 win. Southern Miss held a 25-22 lead before Memphis used an 8-2 run to close out the game and match.
Southern Miss returns to action when the Lady Eagles travel to Greenville, N.C., to play East Carolina on Friday.
