Volleyball Team Downs Southeastern Louisiana in Four, 3-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Three Lady Eagles posted double-digit kills in leading Southern Miss past Southeastern Louisiana, 3-1 (30-25, 25-30, 30-12, 30-23), in volleyball action Tuesday night in the Payne Center.
Southern Miss improved to 13-10, while Southeastern dropped to 4-18.
Amanda Huntoon led Southern Miss with 14 kills, followed by Amanda Blunck and Angela Hlavaty with 10 kills apiece. Blunck also added a match-high 24 digs.
Lauren Mayer led the Lions with 14 kills and Brittany Pomes added 10 to go with 10 digs. Teri Byrum had a team-high 21 digs and Maddie Beebe chipped in 10 digs.
Southern Miss won game one, 30-25, out hitting Southeastern .116 to .029. Huntoon recorded five kills on seven swings for a .714 attack percentage.
Southeastern regroup using an 8-1 run to take a 17-11 lead. The Lions held Southern Miss to .031 attack percentage and putting up five blocks. Southeastern won game two, 30-25.
Southern Miss jumped out to big lead in game three, 14-2, and cruised to a 30-12 win. The Eagles put down 17 kills and had only two attack errors for a .375 hitting percentage. Huntoon and Mari Ruddick combined for eight kills with no attack errors.
In game four, Southeastern battled back from an 11-6 deficit, scoring six unanswered points behind Pomes serving. From there, both teams battled back and forth until Southern Miss finished the game on a 9-4 run for the 30-23 win.
Southern Miss hits the road, beginning a four-match road swing. The Eagles visit UAB and Memphis for the weekend series.
