HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Baseball Coach Corky Palmer has announced that junior college transfer David Clark, a 6-1, 190-pound pitcher from Meridian Community College has enrolled for the spring semester.
Clark, who is eligible for the 2006 season, finished with a 9-1 record with a 3.53 ERA in 75.1 innings pitcher last season at Meridian. He struck out 86, walked 28 and opponents only hit .226 against him. Clark finished with a save, pitched four complete games and registered a shutout.
Last season, he helped lead Meridian CC to a 41-12 overall record and a 15-1 mark in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges. Meridian won the state championship and advanced to the final of the NJCAA Regional Tournament.
As a senior at Columbia High School in Columbia, Miss., Clark was 5-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 53 innings pitched. The all-district and Hattiesburg American All-Area selection finished with 100 strikeouts as a senior and was named the team's most valuable player.
"I am excited that David will be joining our pitching staff in the upcoming season," Palmer said. "He can throw hard, has good command and displays a solid presence on the mound. His fastball reaches 89-91 mph, and he has a good hard slider. He has a chance to pitch a lot for us this spring."
