Lady Eagle Basketball Releases ?05-?06 Schedule
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Head Women?s Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis today released the 2005-06 schedule that will feature one Sweet 16 team (Liberty), four other NCAA Tournament teams (Rice, N.C. State, Houston and Alcorn State) and three others (Mississippi State, SMU, Tulsa) who made WNIT appearances.
The schedule also will feature 16 Conference USA games and other non-conference games against Southern Utah, South Alabama, Florida A&M, Northwestern State, Elon, Jackson State, Mercer, Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, and host its own Lady Eagle Classic.
The Lady Eagles open the season with a Nov. 15 exhibition game against Houston Jaguars. Southern Utah provides regular-season-opening opposition, Nov. 18, before traveling to

?I believe that this league has a tremendous amount of potential to be a very solid league,? McNelis said. ?The greatest thing about this league is that there are some really good teams in it. It?s not going to be a top-heavy league, where there?s going to be only five or six good teams; there?s about eight teams that are solid teams and can make a difference in postseason play.
?I believe that the competition we?ll face, overall, will be a real challenge for us. But at the same time, I think our team will be able to compete and take a step in the right direction of what we want to go. I think we?ll definitely be a much improved team over last year.?
