Dennis Selected As Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar
Danny Dennis |
HATTIESBURG, Miss.
-- Southern Miss senior golfer Danny Dennis has been selected as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recipient, recently announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Dennis, a Collierville, Tenn., native, recently wrapped up his junior year with a 74.5 scoring average over the fall and spring seasons, notching five Top 25 finishes, including earning medalist honors in the Fairway Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., and a third place finish in the USA Fall Beach Classic in Mobile, Ala.
"I'm very excited that Danny has received this award," Southern Miss Head Coach Steve Johnson said. "He played in all but one event for us last year, and this award is a testament to his dedication on and off the course. This honor speaks highly of him as a young man."
Dennis was among the 86 recipients on the Division I level, while a host of others were chosen from Division II and Division III schools. He also was one of two players selected from Conference USA, joining Tulane's William Roach, Jr.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and have competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I and 3.0 in Divisions II and III. A recipient must also be of high moral character and in good standing at his college or university.
