Lady Eagle Basketball Team Adds Junior College Signee

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss Head Women?s Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis has announced the signing of junior college standout, Kristin Chaney of Little Rock, Miss., to a national letter of intent for the 2005-06 academic year.

Chaney, a 5-4 point guard, averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as a sophomore for Coach Brad Hodge at East Central Community College.  She received second team All-American honors.  She was named first team all-region and all-state.  She was named to the 2005 MACJC All-Star team.   She was named to the Region all-tournament team twice.

Chaney, a two-sport letterwinner, received second All-American honors in softball in 2004.  She currently plays infield and catcher with a batting average of .581 and a fielding percentage of .963.  As a freshman, she was a MACJC First Team all-state selection and first team all-region 23.

?Kristin is a very important piece to puzzle,? McNelis said.  ?She is a true point guard.  She has helped lead her junior college team to a national tournament.  Not only does she bring her skills and ability to this team, but also brings a much-needed leadership quality, experience and a winning attitude.  We are thrilled to have Kristin join our team.?
