Men's Golf Finishes 10th In ASU Indian Classic
JONESBORO, Ark. ? Southern Miss shot a team total of 296 in the ASU Indian Classic, played Tuesday at the par 72, 6,539-yard Ridge Point Country Club here in Jonesboro. The tournament was limited to just one round, instead of the normal three rounds, due to inclement weather on Monday.
Danny Dennis led the Golden Eagle contingent with a 1-under par 71, to tie for 11th overall. Kyle Ramey followed in a tie for 32nd after his 74, while Grant Balcke added a 75 to tie for 41st. Austin Bowen finished tied for 51st with a 76, and Justin Elliott rounded out the team play with a 78, tying him for 62nd overall.
Illinois State golfer Kyle Vasel tied a course record with a seven-under par 65 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors and helped propel the Cardinals to the team title with a 275. Arkansas State finished second, 14 strokes off the pace.
The tournament, in its ninth season, has had five different team winners.
The event was the final tune-up before the 2005 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship, which the Golden Eagles and Head Coach Steve Johnson will host at The Grand Bear golf course in Gulfport, Miss. The championship event begins runs Monday through Wednesday, April 18-20.
