Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Pinehurst Intercollegiate
PINEHURST, N.C. ? The Southern Miss men's golf team fired a final round of 306 to finish fifth overall in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at the Pinehurst No. 8 golf course.
The Golden Eagles, which opened with a 305 and a 294 in rounds one and two, respectively yesterday, finished with a team total of 905 for the tournament. First-day leader SMU took home the team title with a 292-294-289--875, while Xavier shot a 307-282-287--876 to finish second. Indiana (300-295-293--888) and Marquette (303-296-300--899) were third and fourth, respectively.
Southern Miss' Kyle Ramey and Grant Balcke both finished in the top 20, with Ramey shooting a 77-71-76--224 to finish tied for 10th. Balcke tied for 15th after his total of 228 (77-74-77). Michael Soroka followed in a tie for 22nd with a 76-78-75--229, while Austin Bowen also scored with a 75-75-81--231. Justin Elliott also competed in the event and shot a 232 (80-74-78) to tie for 35th overall.
The Golden Eagles will compete in two more tournaments -- the LSU Spring Invitational and the ASU Indian Classic -- before hosting the 2005 Conference USA Tournament at the Grand Bear Golf Club in Gulfport, Miss. The C-USA Tournament will begin April 18 and will continue through the championship round on April 20.
