Southern Miss Falls to USF, 68-54

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --- Southern Miss had its three-game winning streak snapped in a 68-54 loss to USF on Sunday afternoon in Green Coliseum. Southern Miss dropped to 9-15 and 3-8 in league play, while USF improved to 17-9 and 7-5.
Emer Foley led Southern Miss with her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Deondra Carter scored 11 points and Shannon Stueber chipped in 10 points. USF?s Jessica Dickson led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Sharon Cambridge scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half.

USF opened the second half with a 6-0 run, while holding the Lady Eagles scoreless for the first five minutes taking a 36-30 lead. Southern Miss managed to cut the Bulls lead to two points, 44-42, at the
?I proud of the way our team played, especially in the first half,? McNelis said. ?We couldn?t play any better basketball. If we could have played that way in the second half, I think we would have had a chance to win.?
The Lady Eagles cut the lead to eight, 56-48, but USF out scored Southern Miss 10-8 down the stretch to seal the win.
?We came out flat in the second half,? said McNelis. ?We started to play in a panic mode and got frustrated. We would forget where we were going. We executed our game plan to perfection in the first half. We would have liked to have gone into the half with a lead, but go in tied at the half, we just can?t say enough about this group.?
Southern Miss won the battle of the boards, 41-33, but the 24 turnovers proved to be more costly. USF scored 24 points off the Lady Eagle turnovers.
