Southern Miss Women's Basketball Team Hosts Jackson State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss returns home, hosting in-state rival Jackson State in non-conference action on Friday, Dec. 9. Tip-off time is set for 7 p.m. This is the first of two consecutive home games played before the Lady Eagles take a break for the Christmas Holiday.
Southern Miss is 2-5, following a 59-57 heartbreaking loss to Elon in the consolation game of the NC State Tournament, Dec. 4. Ashley Boehnel led all scorers with a game-high 18 points with Liz Biland and Kendra Reed adding 12 and 10 points, respectively. Boehnel was voted to the all-tournament team for her performance in the tournament.
Reed continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 14.7 points followed closely by Ashley Harrell and Boehnel with 14.3 and 14.0 points. Amber Eugene leads the team in rebounding.
Jackson State, under the direction of Denise Taylor-Lewis, enters the game with a 2-3 record, following a 73-61 win over Centenary, Dec. 5 that snapped a two-game losing streak. Shelita Burns and Shante Stanford scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, in that game.
Stanford leads the team in scoring with 13.4 points per game, while Burns is averaging 13.2 points per game. Angel Liddell also is averaging in double-digits, with 11.2 per game. Burns leads the team in rebounding with 32 on the year, and Liddell has 17 assists and 19 steals.
Following the Jackson State, Southern Miss remains at home, hosting Mercer, Dec. 15, in a 5 p.m., tip-off.
