Southern Miss Women's Basketball Team Hosts Mercer

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss hosts Mercer in non-conference action on Thursday, Dec. 15. Tip-off time is set for 5 p.m. This will be the last home game before the Lady Eagles take a break for the Christmas Holiday. The game will be broadcast on WXHB-FM 96.5, with broadcast time beginning 30 prior to tip-off.
Southern Miss is 3-5, following a 76-67 overtime win against in-state rival Jackson State on Dec. 9. Ashley Boehnel scored six of the last seven points in regulation to tie the game. Boehnel finished with 20 points, while Kendra Reed led the team with 21 points. Liz Biland and Amber Eugene added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Reed continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points, followed closely by Boehnel and Ashley Harrell with 14.8 and 13.1 points. Amber Eugene leads the team in rebounding at 6.1 rebounds per game.
Mercer, under the direction of Brenda Welch-Nichols, enters the game with a 1-5 record, following a 74-49 loss at Gardner-Webb, Dec. 5. Sarah Russell and Tanya Kessenich scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, in that game.
Russell leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Sally Skeldon has 42 assists and 14 steals this season.
Following the Mercer game, Southern Miss hits the road for a game at Arkansas-Little Rock on Dec. 21. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
