Basketball Falls To South Alabama, 75-51

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team dropped a 75-51 decision to visiting South Alabama, Saturday, at Reed Green Coliseum.
The Golden Eagles fell to 2-6 overall with the loss, while the Jaguars improved to 5-1 on the season.
South Alabama opened the game with a 13-4 advantage with a little less than five minutes passed in the first period and never relinquished the lead, with the score standing at 31-23 at the break.
The lead got to as many as 25 in the second half -- at the 5:53 mark -- before settling to 75-51 at the end.
Mildon Ambres was the lone Golden Eagle in double-figures with 12 points and also led the team with seven rebounds. David Cornwell and Courtney Beasley each had eight.
Jason McGriff and Demetric Bennett both led South Alabama with 13 points each. Mario Jointer added 12, and Richard Law had 10. Jointer had a team-high seven rebounds.
Southern Miss takes a few days off from the court before continuing its seven-game homestand against William Carey, Thursday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
