Men's Golf Finishes Second In Memphis Intercollegiate
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Southern Miss Men's Golf Team fired a final-round 293 to finish second overall in the 2005 Memphis Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn.
The Golden Eagles' 293 combined with first-day scores of 287 and 301 to give the team a total score of 881, five shots back from tournament winner Memphis. The top-five finish is the second in a row for Southern Miss. Following the top two teams, Wisconsin (302-295-286--883) finished third, while Iowa (298-300-286--884), Penn State (294-302-288--884) and Kansas State (294-294-296--884) all tied for fourth.
Senior golfer Justin Elliott finished second overall in the tournament with a 67-71-74--212 to lead the Golden Eagle contingent. Joel Myrick also finished in the top 20, tying for 16th with a 71-77-73--221. Danny Dennis (75-78-73--226) and Kyle Ramey (74-77-75--226) both tied for 41st, while Rocky Cleland finished in a tie for 45th with a 78-76-73--227.
Memphis' Keven Fortin-Simard took home medalist honors with a 69-67-72--208.
