Southern Miss fought back from a 12-point second half deficit to tie the game at 48-48 with 11:47 remaining in the game, using a 17-8 to open the second half, including eight points from Deondra Carter in that span. But
?We played with a tremendous amount of intensity and effort,? Southern Miss Head Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. ?We got off to a great start in the game and kept our focus. We played with a lot of passion and a lot of fight. We?ve got something to build on and this was probably the best 40 minute game we?ve played all year.?
In the first half, the Lady Eagles were down by nine, 29-20 with 4:11 remaining, but used two three point baskets from Hallie Prest and one from Dianca Jones to make the scored 33-29 with 1:45 remaining. Southern Miss got with in two, 33-31 on thanks to a lay-up from Emer Foley, but Marquette closed out the first half on a 7-0 run to led 40-31 at halftime.
Jones led Southern Miss with 15 points, while Shannon Stueber added 14 and Carter had 10 points.
