Lee-McNelis Announces Staff Addition

HATTIESBURG, Miss.
? Southern Miss Head Women?s Basketball Coach Joye-Lee McNelis has announced an addition to her coaching staff, naming Brooks Donald as an assistant coach. The remaining assistant coach positions have yet to be filled and will be named at a later date.Donald comes to Southern Miss after one season at Memphis, where she served as the recruiting coordinator under McNelis. She also assisted with on-the-court coaching of the post players and monitored academic progress of the student-athletes.
"I'm excited about Brooks joining our staff," Lee-McNelis said. "She is a great recruiter and has a key knowledge of what it takes to be successful."
Prior to her stint at Memphis, Donald was an assistant coach at UALR for three seasons. While at UALR, Donald was responsible for recruiting, scouting, monitoring academics and served as the on-the-court coach of the guards. She was named recruiting coordinator for the 2002-03 season.
The Jennings, La., native served as head girls? basketball coach at Saint Thomas More High School in Lafayette, La. She also founded her own basketball camp.
Donald has extensive coaching experience at the AAU level, having worked with the Acadiana Stars from 1995-2000. In 1999, she also coached the Mississippi Pride 17 & under team that participated in the National Tournament in Clarksville, Tenn. She has also worked various basketball camps at UALR, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State and Memphis.
Donald, 26, received her Bachelor of Science degree in the college of Education from Mississippi State in 2000 with an emphasis in sports communication. While at MSU, Donald was a member of the Lady Bulldogs for one year before a knee injury cut her collegiate career short. She also was a four-year letterwinner at Jennings High School.
