Hoffpauir Named Conference USA Hitter of the Week
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss junior second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the week ending March 28. This marks the fourth Golden Eagle (Matt Shepherd, 2/23; Ryan Frith, 3/8; Marc Maddox, 3/15) to receive conference hitter of the week honors and the fifth overall (Cliff Russum, 3/15) selection.
Hoffpauir hit a team-best .529 (9-for-17) in four games against ranked teams last week, driving in the winning run in two of USM's three victories. Against No. 5 Mississippi on March 23, he hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the seventh and had the game-winning hit in the ninth. At No. 33 USF on Saturday, Hoffpauir drove in the game-winner in a 3-2 victory in the top of the ninth. He finished the week with two doubles, two homers and 11 RBIs, while walking twice and scoring four times.
Hoffpauir currently leads Conference USA in hitting (.456), hits (47), RBIs (41), sacrifice flies (6), fielding assists (81) and is tied for the doubles lead (10). He also is third in total bases (72), seventh in slugging percentage (.699), tied for seventh in fielding double plays (20) and ninth in on-base percentage (.479).
Southern Miss (20-4, 4-2 C-USA) returns to action on Wednesday night when Mississippi Valley State visits Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field for a 6:30 p.m., contest. The Golden Eagles host TCU for a three-game weekend Conference USA series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Friday's game starts at 6:30 p.m., Saturday's game at 3 p.m., and Sunday's at 1 p.m.
