Southern Miss Men's Tennis Tops The Citadel CHARLESTON, S.C.
In No. 1 singles, Citadel senior Matt Stubbs fell to junior David Canudas, 7-6, 6-3. Senior John Williams defeated Southern Miss freshman Juan Garzon at No. 2 singles, in two sets, 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Carl Hocker in No. 3 singles, fell to Golden Eagle freshman Chris Rea, 6-2, 6-1, while the No. 4 match-up added another win for Southern Miss, as sophomore Reid Bourgeois defeated sophomore Warren Woolfolk, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Sophomore David Lara earned the second and final point for The Citadel as he handled freshman Thomas Funke, 7-6, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot. The Golden Eagles clinched the fifth and final point as freshman Dylan Mezey beat freshman Robert Haynie, 6-4, 6-0.
In the No. 1 doubles The Citadel's sophomore duo of Woolfolk and Lara came up one shy against Canudas and Mezey, 9-8. In the No. 2 doubles Stubbs and Hocker overcome Southern Mississippi?s Garzon and Funke, 8-0, while Golden Eagles Rea and Bourgeois overcame Lara and Haynie, 8-6, in the No. 3 spot.
