Baseball Ranked No. 20 In Latest Polls
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss baseball team, coming off a 3-1 record for last week, including a weekend series sweep of Louisiana Tech is ranked No. 20 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 31 by the Sports Weekly/ESPN College Coaches Poll and No. 34 by Collegiate Baseball.
The Golden Eagles (6-1) defeated the Bulldogs, 5-2 on Friday, 5-0 on Saturday and 13-4 on Sunday. Earlier in the week, USM dropped a 9-2 decision to South Alabama.
Tulane is ranked No. 8 by Baseball America and NCBWA, No. 10 by the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 13 by Collegiate Baseball, marking the highest-ranked team in the conference. East Carolina is ranked No. 18 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 21 by Baseball America, No. 24 by Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 28 by the NCBWA.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, when they host Louisiana-Monroe for a two-game midweek series. They conclude the two-game series with a 3 p.m., game on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles travel to Lake Charles, La., to compete in the Cox Communications/ESPN Lake Area Classic hosted by McNeese State. Southern Miss faces Indiana State on Friday at 3 p.m., Oklahoma State on Saturday at 1 p.m., and McNeese State on Sunday at 4 p.m.
