Lewis Earns Academic Honors Hattiesburg, Miss.
Along with other district winner, she now will go on the national ballot from which the all-america team will be selected. CoSIDA yearly selects academic all-america teams regionally and nationally.
The Booneville, Miss., native is a biological sciences major at Southern Miss and carries a 3.84 grade point average. After missing the final 15 games of the 2002-03 season with a knee injury, Lewis has started all 24 games this season and currently is averaging 8.9 points and 3.0 rebounds. She also is second on the team in assists, with 71.
Lewis played in 28 games as a freshman, 17 games as a sophomore, 14 as a junior prior to her injury and her 24 games this year gives her 93 games in a Lady Eagle uniform. She has started 65 of those games. In her career, she has scored 616 points, heading into tonight's game at South Florida, and has picked up 95 rebounds and 183 assists. Her 2003-04 totals in points (213), rebounds (71) and assists (71) are season highs for her.
She is joined on the first team by Jolee Ayers-Curry of Texas Tech, Jamie Carey of Texas, Caton Hill of Oklahoma and Lindsay Maynard of Rice.
Ole Miss' Genice Terry was named to the District VI second team.
