Eagle Golfers Finish 8th At The Tulane Invitational
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team shot a final round 305 at English Turn here Tuesday to finish the 54-hole Tulane Invitational in eighth place, at 299-302-305--906.
First-day leader SMU held on to that spot to capture the nine-team event with a 279-287-302--868 total, two shots in front of Wake Forest (285-291-294--870). Host Tulane finished third at 300-286-299--885, and Southeastern Louisiana (295-293-304--892) and Alabama (307-283-302--892) finished in a fourth place tie.
Wake Forest's Bill Haas earned medalist honors, at 12-under par 68-67-69--204. Michael Thompson of Tulane finished seven shots back at 70-66-75--211.
Ben Snow saved his best round of the tournament for the final day and his even par 72, matching the best Golden Eagle round of the tournament, moved him to a tie for 20th place at 77-78-72--227. Justin Elliott finished in a tie for that same No. 20 spot, after rounds of 77-72-78--227. Other Golden Eagle golfers and their finishes included Michael Soroka in 32nd (75-78-77--230), Matt Wofford at 33rd (73-80-78--231), and Shane Rushing 36th (74-74-84--232).
Following the Tulane tournament, Southern Miss will host the Sam Hall Intercollegiate at the Hattiesburg Country Club, Feb. 16-17.
