Boley, Eubanks, McCaleb Named All-Americans By SI.com
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Southern Miss senior linebacker Michael Boley was named Second Team All-American by SI.com, while teammates junior kickoff returner John Eubanks and sophomore placekicker Darren McCaleb garnered Honorable Mention All-American honors by the Web site today.
Boley, Conference USA?s Defensive Player of the Year, earns All-American honors for the second time this season, as he was tabbed Second Team All-American by The Sporting News.
The Athens, Ala., native, a three-time First Team All-Conference USA selection, ranks third in Conference USA in tackles (117) and second in the nation in forced fumbles (5). He has 13 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks on the year and ranks third on the Southern Miss career list for sacks. Boley holds the school record with nine forced fumbles. A four-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Week this season, Boley was this year?s recipient of the Conerly Trophy, given to the top player in the state of Mississippi.
Eubanks, Conference USA?s Special Teams Player of the Year, earns All-American honors for the first time this season, and for the second time in his career.
He leads Conference USA and ranks fourth in the nation in kick return average at 29.4 yards per game. Eubanks has returned 21 kicks for 618 yards, including a 97-yard return for a touchdown against Houston. He also earned first team All-Conference honors as a kick returner and a defensive back.
McCaleb, a Second Team All-Conference USA selection this season, connected on all 15 field goals he attempted this year, to set the school record for highest field goal percentage in a season (1.000). The Biloxi, Miss., native was a Freshman All-American last season.
Southern Miss (6-5) will close out its 2004 season in the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl, facing the University of North Texas (7-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m., at the Louisiana Superdome (69,767). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
