BILOXI, Miss.? The Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball team pulled away from Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the second half, to win 52-38, Friday, at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.
?We?ll take the win,? Head Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. ?Defensively, we held them to 38 points, which was a huge plus for us. We took another good step defensively. We a lot of easy shots tonight. We need to get a lot better at making shots.?
After leading by four, 22-18 at halftime, Southern Miss used a 12-6 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take a eight-point lead, 32-24, with 15:37 to play.
Southern Miss would push its lead out to 13 at the 12:52 mark, on a three-point basket by Kelsey Gurganus. The Lady Eagles would lead by as many as 18 in the second half, before winning by 14.
The Lady Eagles (4-4) got a game-high 20 points from Deondra Carter and 12 points from Shannon Stueber, along with 11 rebounds from Dianca Jones in the victory.
Southern Miss shot 28.1 percent from the field for the game, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff shot only 23 percent for the game. Jessica Fulce led Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 13 points.
