Southern Miss Opens Regular Season Against Nationally Ranked LSU

Both teams will feature first-year head coaches. Joye Lee-McNelis takes the reigns at Southern Miss, following a 13-year stint at
Freshmen Shannon Stueber and Liz Biland scored 21 points each in the exhibition loss to Perik Jumpers. Another freshman, Kelsey Gurganus, scored nine points. Southern Miss finished the game shooting 56.5 percent from the field, but it was the 15 second chance points and a strong free throw shooting performance down the stretch that sealed the win for the Jumpers.
LSU comes into the game with a 3-0 record, following a 71-70 win over No. 8 Baylor in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. In that game, Seimone Augustus scored a game-high 33 points and Temeka Johnson added 15 points with nine assists. The Lady Tigers finished the game shooting 51.7 percent from the field.

4 The Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball program is celebrating 30 years. Southern Miss began play during the 1975-76 season. The program has had only four coaches, Bob McBee (1975-77), Kay James (1977-99), Rick Reeves (1999-04) and Joye Lee-McNelis (2004-present).
