Southern Miss Lady Eagle Basketball Team Gets Dandy Dozen Member

Boehnel (pronounced bow-nell), a 5-10 guard, averaged 14.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.2 steals per game as a junior for Coach Pam Slayton. She helped lead Hancock to the state 5A championship in 2004 when she scored 21 points, had 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. She is a member of the 2004-05 Clarion Ledger?s Dandy Dozen team. She was selected to the Mississippi North-South All-Star game this past summer. She has been a member of Domino?s and Kenner Angels AAU organizations for five years. She was an
?It?s an honor to be able to sign someone from my high school,? McNelis said. ?Ashley was the first player to commit to us. We feel very strongly about what she brings to the table. She possesses a lot of grit, blood and guts, and a lot of drive. She gives us a lot of versatility in that she can play several different positions on the floor. She can score outside, post up, make good passes and create opportunities for her teammates.?
Boehnel chose Southern Miss over Ole Miss,
?I think it?s awesome that Ashley is signing with Southern Miss,? Slayton said. ?It is wonderful that she is going to be there with Joye (Coach McNelis). Joye is going to take that program to another level, and Ashley is excited to be a part of that. With Southern Miss right there in our backyard, fans, friends and family can all watch her play. You can?t ask for anything better than that.?
