Lady Eagles Conclude Homestand, Host East Carolina
The Lady Eagles will try to get back on the winning track when they host East Carolina at Reed Green Coliseum at 2:30 p.m. Southern Miss had its 10-game home win streak snapped on Friday.
Southern Miss is 13-2 and 1-1, following a 59-57 loss to Charlotte. Lana Lewis led Southern Miss with 15 points, while Deondra Carter and Michelle Poindexter added 13 points each. Southern Miss tried to rally from an 8-point deficit with 1:57 remaining, but Charlotte put the game away from the free throw line.
Carter continues to lead Southern Miss in scoring at 13.6 points per game, while Poindexter leads the team in rebounding at 8.0 rebounds. As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 62.8 points and 41.1 rebounds per game, while holding its opponents 50.4 points and 32.3 rebounds per game.
East Carolina is 12-4 and 3-0 after a 65-58 victory at Tulane on Friday night. In that game, ECU got 20 points from Keisha Anthony off the bench and a double-double from Courtney Willis (11 points and 11 rebounds). Jennifer Jackson scored 14 points. East Carolina finished the game shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 72.7 percent from the line.
Willis leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. The team is averaging 67.6 points and 43.9 rebounds per game.
Southern Miss and East Carolina have played only two times, dating back to the 2000-01 season. The series is tied 1-1. East Carolina won the first meeting in Hattiesburg and Southern Miss won last year's meeting in Greenville.
Following the East Carolina game, Southern Miss will hits the road for games at nationally-ranked DePaul (1/23) and Marquette (1/25).
