" Tonight's game marks the eighth time since 1990 that Southern Miss has played in a Thursday game. The Golden Eagles sport a 4-4 overall record on Thursdays, including a 1-3 record on games played at home. This also marks the second of three Thursday games for the 2003 season. Southern Miss defeated UAB, 17-12, on Sept. 4, and will host TCU on Nov. 20.
" Tonight's game is the second in the overall series between Southern Miss and Nebraska, which the Huskers now lead 2-0. The first meeting was played on Sept. 18, 1999 - a 20-13 win by the Huskers - in Lincoln, Neb.
" Tonight's attendance of 36,152 set a new M.M. Roberts Stadium record, surpassing the previous record of 35,169 against Jackson State in the opening game of the 2002 season. The game also was the sixth-smallest crowd that Nebraska competed in.
" The 38 points that Nebraska scored tonight was the most given up by the Golden Eagle defense all season and the most points since allowing 38 points at Penn State in 2001. The Nittany Lions won that game, 38-20.
" Southern Miss 17-play, 92-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter tied the longest drive of the season - 92 yards in 10 plays against UAB - also played on a Thursday night earlier this season. Tonight's drive also took up 7:46, marking the longest possession for Southern Miss this year. The 17 plays also were the most on a drive this year.

Carter finished the game 14-of 17 for 143 yards and one touchdown - a 6-yard pass to Caleb Hendrix with 2:43 remaining in the game.
" Freshman wide receiver Caleb Hendrix made his Southern Miss debut tonight, grabbing three catches for 28 yards and one touchdown. Hendrix became the first true freshman to score a touchdown in his very first game since Marvin Young had a touchdown against Houston on Oct. 27, 2001.
