Baseball Receives Highest Ranking In School History Once Again
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Coming fresh off capturing its first Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles, the Southern Miss baseball team moved up three spots to No. 12 in Baseball America's Poll, the highest ranking in the school's history, and moved up one spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's poll to No. 16.
Conference USA member Tulane is ranked No. 22, and TCU is No. 29 in the Writers Poll.
Southern Miss (45-14) hosts the NCAA Regional Tournament this weekend on Fri.-Sun., May 30-June 1. The Golden Eagles (No. 2 seed) host Southern University (46-5) (No. 3 seed) in the first round on Friday at 3 p.m., and No. 14 Baylor (41-21) (No. 1 seed) will face Murray State (24-29), winners of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in the 7 p.m., game on Friday.
Saturday's game times are 11 a.m. for the elimination bracket, the winners bracket at 3 p.m., and the final elimination game at 7 p.m. The championship game will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. If a second game in necessary, it will start 45 minutes after the first game is completed.
Fans attending the three-day event will be able to park in most campus lots free of charge, and two shuttles will be provided to help move fans to and from the more distant lots. In addition, the Driver?s Ed lot on W. 4th Street just east of and across W. 4th from Pete Taylor Park, and the lot surrounding Green Coliseum will be available for tournament parking at a cost of $5 per car. Fans desiring to park in the baseball parking lot may do so for $10 per car.
