Cook Named Conference USA Hitter of the Week
The Golden Eagles finished with a 3-1 record for the week, defeating Southeastern Louisiana on the road last Wednesday, 3-1, and winning two-of-three at Cincinnati over the weekend, 15-8, on Friday, dropping Saturday's 7-3, and winning Sunday's 3-2.
Cook hit .471 (8/17) for the week, including a double and four home runs and eight RBIs. He had an on-base percentage of .526, a slugging percentage of 1.235 and a fielding percentage of 1.000 (seven chances). He also led the team in runs scored (6) and total bases (21).
His home run in Wednesday's game broke open a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth inning, helping lead the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 victory at Southeastern Louisiana. He tied a school and Conference USA record with three home runs in Friday's game at Cincinnati. The last one to accomplish the feat was Allen Winningham, who hit three home runs in the series opening game at TCU on Mar. 15. He also finshed was a double and seven RBIs.
For the season, Cook is second on the team, hitting .356 with nine doubles and is tied for the team's home run lead with Clint King with 10. He also leads the team in RBIs with 39 and stolen bases with nine. He has a .424 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .652.
The Golden Eagles host Ole Miss at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field on Wednesday, Apr. 9, at 6:30 p.m. Southern Miss will host Charlotte in a three-game Conference USA weekend on Apr. 11-13 as part of Eaglefest Weekend. Friday's game will start at 6:30 p.m., Saturday's will begin at 4 p.m., and Sunday's will start at 1 p.m.
