Lady Eagles Ink North Carolina Standout
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's basketball Head Coach Rick Reeves announced the signing of North Carolina standout Ashley Huffman of Hickory, N.C., to a National Letter of Intent and Grant-in-Aid agreement today, during the signing period.
Huffman, a 5-8 guard, played at Hickory High School, where she averaged 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.7 steals per game as a senior. She was named the conferene player of the year for three- straight seasons as well as all-conference selection. She was a Charlotte Observer first-team All-Piedmont selection for three seasons and an All-Observer second-team selection as a junior and senior. She was named her team's most valuable player and scored 1,000 points in her career while at Hickory High School. She was a Heisman nominee and a Hickory Hall of Fame inductee. She was named to numerous all-tournament teams during her career. She was selected for the North Carolina East/West Game. She also was selected for the Catawba Valley Shootout and the Charlotte Pro-Am. She is a member of the Student Council, Beta Club and National Honor Society.
"We are excited about signing Ashley," Reeves said. "She is a versatile guard that can score from behind the three-point line or off the dribble. Ashley will make a wonderful addition to our program.?
The Lady Eagles also signed four players during the early signing period in November, guard/forward Deondra Carter of Pearl River, La., guard Dianca Jones and forward Michelle Poindexter of Columbus, Miss., and forward/center Kim Rigg of Alpharetta, Ga.
