Chronicles of Golden Eagle Golf

2003 ASU Indian Classic
Day 3, the 36-hole day, April 14, 2003
College golf definitely has its ups and downs. There is an understanding that the game of golf can kick you in the rear every once and a while. I respect that understanding and press on with hopes of better days.
We didn't play well today and it is very frustrating to get in the van after playing the way we did. The wind blew like there was no tomorrow, and it was very hard to navigate. Today's wind blew differently than it did during the practice round. It is hard to prepare for the changing conditions of a spring season.
It is always good for a few laughs to discuss the events of a bad round. Ben Snow talked about the four times he shanked the ball today. Mike Soroka wishes he had spent his money on something other than his new Odyssey Two Ball putter. Shane Rushing made 10 birdies today and shot one-over-par for two rounds. I could have chipped better with a baseball bat than my wedge today. It seemed like every time I had an easy chip shot I either hit it fat, or thinned it way past the hole.
Usually the teams that are in the bottom half of the field tee off the back nine for the final round. Tomorrow will be the first time all year that we will tee off on hole No. 10. It is a lot more fun teeing off in the leader group for the final round.
Someone told me something a while back that always makes me feel better after a bad round. A golfer is never as good as he thinks when he is winning, and he is never as bad as he thinks when he is losing. Our score today doesn't reflect badly on us as a team. We have already proven ourselves this year by having a great season. Tomorrow we have a chance to go out and play well, so we must take advantage of that opportunity.
