Golden Eagle Netters Conclude Season With A Loss
HATTIESBUR, Miss. ? The Southern Miss men?s tennis team concluded the regular season, Saturday afternoon, losing to No. 19 Tulane, 5-2, at the Racquet Club of Hattiesburg.
Tulane swept the doubles? matches, earning the early 1-0 lead, but not without a fight. David Canudas and Uwe Gneiting took Tulane?s Goran Vasiljevic and Hannu Piiroinen to the limit before losing, 9-7, at No. 2 doubles. Nicolas Carteret and Juanjo Martin teamed together at No. 3 doubles and lost a hard-fought match to Dmitriy Koch and Jorge Lievano, 9-7.
Southern Miss took two wins in the singles matches, winning at No. 4 when Carteret defeated Hannu Piiroinen (TUL) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Reid Bourgeois also won in straight sets, defeating Patrizio Maucci (TUL), 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
Southern Miss (8-10) returns to action April 16-19, when the Golden Eagles travel to Milwaukee, Wis., for the Conference USA Tennis Tournament.
