Off the Tee, Day 3
Day 3, the 36-hole day, March 10, 2003
It was a long day as always on the 36-hole day. The tee time today was 7:30 a.m. and it seemed like the sun would never come up and warm the air. As soon as the sun came up, we heated up and started playing well.
We finished the first round at three over-par (291). That was good enough for third place to start the tournament. SMU lit it up this morning shooting seven under-par (281). They won this tournament last year and seemed to take control early this year.
After shooting our mediocre round in the morning, we felt as if we could really take it low the second round. I birdied the first hole for the second round, but it was a roller coaster from there on in. I made a few freshman mistakes today along with a few duffed wedge shots. We all made some mistakes that we can learn from and do better tomorrow. We shot six over-par for the second round which didn?t help us.
After the round we went to dinner at a great seafood place called Don?s. After playing golf all day we were all very hungry and we would have eaten anything. I recommend the broiled stuffed flounder and the raw oysters. It seems like every restaurant in Louisiana is a seafood place.
Tomorrow is moving day and we are prepared. Usually on Tuesday the tournament committee sets the course up to be a lot harder. If we play smart tomorrow and pick and choose when we need to be aggressive, we will post a good number. We can easily sneak up behind the teams that are ahead of us that way and have a strong finish.
