Lady Eagles Try to Snap Losing Streak
Southern Miss is coming off a 93-61 loss at Louisville. In that game, Dana Jones led Southern Miss with 17 points and La'Tasha Sumerall scored 12 points for the Lady Eagles.
Dana Jones continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 points per game. Sonja Brown leads the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocks (3.39). Brown ranks third in the latest NCAA statistics in blocked shots. Marlena Lee leads the team in assists with 61.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 58.3 points and 39.7 rebounds while shooting 38.9 percent from the field and 66.6 percent from the free throw line.
Following the C-USA weekend series, Southern Miss returns hits the road for a pair of games at UAB (Feb. 14) and South Florida (Feb. 16).
DePaul is 16-6, 5-2, following a 76-68 win over TCU, last Sunday. In that game, Sarah Kustok led four Blue Demons with 20 points, Jenni Dant had 18 points and Khara Smith recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dant is the leading scorer, averaging 13,8 points and Khara Smith is the leading rebounder at 7.8 rebounds per game. DePaul is averaging 70.9 points and 36.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.0 percent from the field and 70.9 percent from the line. The team is allowing 61.0 points and 35.5 rebounds, while forcing its opponents into 18.3 turnovers per game. Head Coach Doug Bruno, in his 17th season, returns only five letterwinners, including three starters from last year's team that finished 15-14.
ABOUT THE SERIES -- Southern Miss and DePaul have played only eight times in a series dating back to the 1995-96 season. DePaul won the first three meetings between the two schools. Southern Miss won the next two, but DePaul has won the last three meeting, including last year?s meeting. The Blue Demons are averaging 77.8 points against the Lady Eagles and twice they have score 100 or more points in the series.
