SouthernMiss.Com: Your senior season is winding down. What are some of your highlights ?
Sumerall: The game against Marquette last season, when I tied the school record for most three-pointers made in a game. The highlight for this season was against Centenary. I blocked a shot. It wasn?t just your normal shot. I blocked a three-point attempt, grabbed the rebound and scored on a layup.
SouthernMiss.Com: What did you enjoy most about your career?
Sumerall: I had the opportunity of play Division I basketball and play against people who were very talented. I also enjoyed the different places we went because I wouldn?t have had the chance to go otherwise.
SouthernMiss.Com: What are your future plans?
Sumerall: I plan to finish my degree, return home to teach and coach (basketball or track) at my old high school or if given the chance to play professional basketball overseas.
SouthernMiss.Com: What are you majoring in?
Sumerall: I am majoring in coaching and sport administration.
SouthernMiss.Com: What has been your role this season?
Sumerall: My role this season is to play the hardest defense that I could possibly play. Help pull down rebounds and provide pressure defense, maybe get a few steals.
SouthernMiss.Com: What has been the funniest thing to happen to you while at Southern Miss?
Sumerall: The funniest thing I can remember is the first time flying with the team. I still think about that. I was sitting with the trainer, and she was going to scare me. We were landing when the plane made a little dip, and I just blurted out something and everyone started to laugh.
What did you say? I?d rather not say.
SouthernMiss.Com: If there is one thing you could change about the season, what would it be?
Sumerall: I would change all the close games that we lost that we should have won. If we had the opportunity to play those teams again, we would come out with a win.
SouthernMiss.Com: Using one word, how would you describe yourself, the team?
Sumerall: One word to describe my teammates is ?family?. The one word to describe myself is motivator.
SouthernMiss.Com: What will you miss the most about college?
Sumerall: I will miss hanging out with my teammates and playing basketball. I will also miss the college life because once I leave school, its time for the real world.
SouthernMiss.Com: What was your favorite class?
Sumerall: Coaching and teaching basketball under Coach Kay James.
SouthernMiss.Com: Your ESPN moment.
I have two. The first is the blocked shot and scoring a layup on the other end. The second is the four-point play at UAB. I hit a three-pointer and was fouled. I even made the free throw.
SouthernMiss.Com: What is your idea vacation spot?
Sumerall: Orlando, Florida.
SouthernMiss.Com: What?s your motto?
Sumerall: Play hard or go home.
