Men's Tennis Loses to Nationally-Ranked Auburn, 7-0
AUBURN, Ala. - The Southern Miss Golden Eagle tennis team lost to the No. 13-ranked Auburn Tigers, 7-0, in tennis action Thursday, at the Luther Young Tennis Complex.
Auburn (5-0) took the early lead, winning the doubles point, with the defending NCAA doubles champion Andy Colombo and partner Tom George downed Marc-Olivier Lux and Nicolas Carteret at No. 1 double, 8-4. The Tigers? No. 2 doubles tandem of Gabor Zoltan Pelva and Markus Schiller defeated the Golden Eagles? Reid Bourgeois and Juanjo Martin by a count of 8-4. Andre Boz and Rodrigo Minozzo of Auburn defeated David Canudas and Uwe Gneiting of Southern Miss by a final count of 8-5.
In singles, Colombo (AU) defeated Gneiting in No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 6 slot, Bourgeois lost to Minozzo (AU) in a three-set match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Schiller (AU) defeated Martin in straight sets at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Southern Miss returns to the hardcourts on Saturday, Feb.15, when it plays host to Samford. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
