Eagle Golfers Finish Third In Tulane Tourney
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team shot a final-round 291 today to finish third with a team total of 302-296-291--889 in the Tulane Invitational, played at English Turn.
The nine-team field completed 36 holes Monday and finished the 54-hole event today. The tournament was the first of the spring season for Head Coach Steve Johnson and his Golden Eagle team.
Wake Forest shot the best round of the tournament today, a one-over-par 289, to move past 36-hole leader SMU and claim the championship with a 292-293-289--874 total, a shot better than SMU, 292-292-291--875. The Golden Eagles' 291 final-round total was their best round of the event and the third best round of the event.
Michael Soroka led Southern Miss' five-player squad with a two-over-par 73-72-73--218 total for three rounds, good for a tie for fifth place finish in the medalist race. Wake Forest's Bill Haas recorded the best 36-hole total of the day with rounds of 69-68-73--210, six under par. He edged SMU's Nicholas Loar, who finished at 71-74-68--213, by three shots.
Other Southern Miss scores today include Shane Rushing, 77-73-71--221; Justin Emil, 74-77-75--226; Justin Elliott, 78-78-73--229; and, Ben Snow, 82-74-74--230. Teams played five players each round and counted the top four scores in each round.
