Southern Miss Wraps Up Preparation, Plays Bowl On Wednesday MEMPHIS, Tenn.
All that remains now for the Conference USA champion Golden Eagles is a short Tuesday walk-through at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and then the Liberty Bowl game against Mountain West Conference champion Utah on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Kickoff for the nationally-televised contest is slated for 2:30 p.m.
Heavy rains in the morning forced Southern Miss to hold its final full practice in the complex's indoor facility on Monday, but Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower and company still had a beneficial workout.
"There was no way we could get on the fields because they were too bad to practice on," Bower said. "We got as much done as we could get done. It's kind of like practicing at home in the Payne Center, you are very limited as to what you could do. But we did the best we could, and we will be all right."
Bower was pleased with the effort however for the final full practice of the 2003 season.
"It's been good," Bower said. "It's been a fun time since we have been here, but it's time to go play. I think our players are excited about playing. We are just trying to eliminate the mistakes and polish up."
Bower said that John Eubanks and Tim Blackwell were limited again in practice today, and the decision to play them in the bowl game will be a game-time decision.
"They haven't practiced very much in the last few days," Bower said. "So I don't know how much they will be able to play because of the short practice time."
