Lady Eagles conclude seven-game homestand, host Sam Houston State

HATTIESBURG, Miss -- Southern Miss concludes its seven-game homestand, hosting first-time opponent Sam Houston State on Saturday at 7 p.m., in Green Coliseum.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 64-58 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the championship game of the Hattiesburg Inn on the Hill Classic. Deondra Carter led a balanced attack with 15 points, followed by Lana Lewis and Denise Wilson with 12 points each. Tierra Lassiter added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Lassiter was named the most outstanding player, while Carter received all-tournament honors.
Carter continues to lead Southern Miss in scoring at 14.2 points per game, while Michelle Poindexter leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 rebounds. As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 59.7 points and 41.5 rebounds per game, while allowing 45.8 points, which ranks second in the national statistics.
Sam Houston State is coming off a 69-51 loss to Western Illinois in the consolation game of the Oklahoma State Cowgirl Classic. Stacy Allen and Kelley Kramer led the Bearkats with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Allen leads the team in scoring at 12.0 points per game, while Kramer leads the team in rebounding at 7.2. The team is averaging 52.8 points and 37.4 rebounds.
Southern Miss and Sam Houston State have never played before, this is the first meeting between the two schools.
Following the Sam Houston State game, the Lady Eagles hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Carbondale, Ill., to play Southern Illinois, Dec. 16, in a 7:05 p.m., game.
