Lady Eagle Basketball Team Opens Regular Season at Home

Head Coach Rick Reeves is beginning his fifth season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women?s basketball team opens the regular season in the first of seven consecutive home games, hosting Troy State, in a 5:30 p.m. tip.

Southern Miss is coming off an 80-58 loss to the Premier Players in an exhibition game.  Freshmen Deondra Carter and Michelle Poindexter led the Lady Eagles with 15 and 13 points, respectively.  Tierra Lassiter chipped in 11 points.  Poindexter also added 10 rebounds.

Head Coach Rick Reeves, beginning his fifth season, returns only five letterwinners from last season, including three starters.

It?s been 20 years since the last meeting between Southern Miss and Troy State.  This is the season opener for both teams.

Troy State is coming off a 50-39 win against the NWBL Southeast.  Kim McGriff and Laura Lee Holman led the Trojans with 10 points each.  The Trojans finished the 2002-03 season 16-12 under head coach Michael Murphy, who is beginning his second season.  Troy State returns nine letterwinners, including three starters from a year ago.

Southern Miss returns to action, Nov. 25, when the Lady Eagles host Louisiana-Monroe in a 5:30 p.m. game.
