Lady Eagles Fall to Premier Players in Exhibition Game

? Freshmen Deondra Carter and Michelle Poindexter turned in solid performances Thursday night, but it wasn?t enough to counter the inside-outside punch of the Premier Players as Southern Miss lost 80-58.
Carter led the Lady Eagles with 15 points and Poindexter recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Tierra Lassiter added 11 points. Tiffany Travis led the Premier Players with 19 points followed by India Lewis with 18, Kym Hope scored 13, Tonya Washington had 12 and Brandi McCain chipped in 11 points.
?The young players are coming along and we are getting better each day,? Head Coach Rick Reeves said. ?I was really pleased with Michelle Poindexter. We played a lot of people tonight and that?s what you do in exhibitions. Now, we are ready to go to work and get ready for the real season.?
Southern Miss jumped out to a quick lead and actually led 14-3 just over five minutes into the game, before the Premiers Players regrouped and cut the lead to three points, 16-13, following a 10-2 run. Southern Miss pushed its led back to nine, 24-15, at the
?One of our concerns is that we don?t have our whole package yet,? Reeves said. ?With a young team, you have to be simple, and you can only put so much in. This was a good team we played tonight and I think they made us a lot better.?
