Eagle Golfers Improve To 8th At Tennessee Tourney
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --
Southern Miss shot a 292 team score in today's final round and moved up three spots to 8th place in the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions event hosted here by the University of Tennessee. The Golden Eagles finished the 54-hole event at 298-287-292--877.
Vanderbilt matched the best team round of the tournament today, with a 9-under-par 279, and moved from fourth place all the way into first when the three teams in front of them after 36 holes, the Swedish National Team (279-284-291--854), Georgia Southern (285-281-292--858) and host Tennessee (284-281-292--858), all recorded their worst rounds of the tournament. The Swedish team dropped into second, Georgia Southern from a second-place tie into fourth and Tennessee from a second place tie into third.
Georgia Southern's Aron Price continued his hot pace with a final round 4-under-par 68 to finish at 69-66-68--203, 13-under-par to claim medalist honors. Virginia's Jeremy Luce finished two shots back, at 67-69-69--205, 11-under-par. In all, 18 different players bettered par in the event.
For Southern Miss, Ben Snow led the Eagles with rounds of 71-71-72, and his 2-under-par 214 total earned him a tie for 14th place, the best individual finish for Head Coach Steve Johnson and his squad. Other Southern Miss players and their scores include Danny Dennis (74-74-72--220) tied for 28th, Shane Rushing (76-74-72--222) tied for 35th, Matt Wofford (77-72-76--225) tied for 50th and Justin Elliott (81-70-79--230) tied for 62nd.
Southern Miss will end the fall season next week with an appearance in the South Alabama Fall Beach Classic at the Gulf Shores Country Club, and then will not play again until the Tulane Invitational, Feb. 9-10, at the English Turn Golf Club in New Orleans, La.
