Lady Eagles Open Practice on October 18
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The Southern Miss women's basketball team officially begins practice for the 2003-04 season at 9:30 a.m., Saturday morning, Oct. 18, in Reed Green Coliseum.The Lady Eagles will have their second practice at 3 p.m., Saturday, as well. All practices for the Lady Eagles will be open to the media.
Southern Miss Head Coach Rick Reeves returns only six letterwinners from last year's team, including three starters. Five of those players played a major role in the team's success.
Heading the list of returnees are three seniors, Tierra Lassiter, Marlena Lee and Lana Lewis. Lassiter played in 28 games and averaged 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds, while Lee played in all 29 games and averaged 3.5 points and 3.2 assists. Lewis played in only 14 games before a season-ending ankle injury. She was averaging 6.5 points before the injury.
Joining the seniors will be junior Allison Story, who averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She scored double figures in eight of her last 10 games. Also returning are sophomores Courtney Todaro, who returns following a redshirt season, and Lotte Hulshof. Hulshof saw limited action last season in a reserve role.
Reeves welcomes seven newcomers, including redshirt guard Ebony Jenkins who was able to practice last season, but not compete during the regular season.
Southern Miss opens the regular season Nov. 21 at home game against Troy State, following an exhibition game Nov. 13 against the Premier Players.
