From Beyond the Arc -- Women's Basketball Player Lotte Hulshof
SouthernMiss.Com: "How well have you adapted to playing 'American-style' basketball?
Hulshof: "I am still adapting. There are a lot of differences. We don't use as many post players. The game over here is faster and the players are more physical.
SouthernMiss.Com: "Is it a big difference for you?
Hulshof: "Yes, it's really a big difference. We play very structured over here. I have never played so structured before. We have so many different offenses, out-of-bound plays, defenses and presses. In my country, we play more freestyle basketball.
SouthernMiss.Com: "What has been the hardest thing you've had to get accustomed to?
Hulshof: "The hardest thing getting accustomed to was the slang. When I came here, I spoke pretty good English, but the Southerners speak differently. I could not understand them. Sometimes, I still don't understand them.
SouthernMiss.Com: "Do you have a favorite American dish?
Hulshof: "I love macaroni and cheese. But not all the macaroni and cheese, I like Mrs. Norma Burkes' mac & cheese. It's really good.
SouthernMiss.Com: "How many different languages do you speak?
Hulshof: "I speak two languages fluently, English and Dutch. I also speak a little bit of French and German.
SoutehrnMiss.Com: "Has it been difficult to get accumtomed to the academic side of college?
Hulshof: "Not really. The only thing that bothers me is speaking publicly. I can speak good English, but when I am standing in front of a group, I mess up my English, because it is not my first language.
SouthernMiss.Com: "What goals have you set for yourself and this team?
Hulshof: "My goals for myself are to work hard everything time I am on the court. I want to improve every aspect of my game. For the team, I want to make the NCAA Tournament. I know we can do it, we just don't always show it.
SouthernMiss.Com: "What has been the hardest word for you to pronounce?
Hulshof: "Three. I say it like free or tree, but I am working on it with my teammates.
