Southern Miss Men's Tennis Team Lose in Season Opener
Tuscaloosa, Ala. ? The Southern Miss men?s tennis team opened the 2003 spring season, losing to Alabama, 7-0, Sunday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide (2-0) swept the doubles? matches, earning the early 1-0 lead. Reid Bourgeois and Juanjo Martin took the no. 3 team in doubles team of Brad Fried and Brian Isern, to the limit before losing, 9-7.
The Tide clinched the match when Michael Ray Pallares (UA) defeated Marc-Olivier Lux (USM), 6-3, 6-3, at the no. 4 singles.
Southern Miss (0-1) returns to action, Jan. 30, against nationally ranked Mississippi State. This match was originally scheduled for Jan. 25, but extreme weather temperatures caused the match to be postponed. The match is set for 2 p.m., in Starkville.
