Rock 104 Continues As Flagship Station
Hattiesburg, Miss. - WXRR-FM, Rock 104, will continue to serve as the flagship station for the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network, thanks to a multi-year agreement between Southern Miss Athletics, International Sports Properties and Blakeney Communications.
Rock 104 (FM 104.5) will carry all Golden Eagle football and men?s basketball games, in addition to the weekly call-in show the Golden Eagle Hotline.
?Rock 104 and Blakeney Communications have been an important part of the success of Golden Eagle athletics over the past few years,? said Athletic Director Richard Giannini. ?As one of the best and strongest stations in south Mississippi, they are the anchor of our network that gives us more coverage than we have ever had. We are excited that WXRR-FM will continue to be a part of the Southern Miss family.?
Blakeney Communications consists of WXRR-FM, WBBN-FM (B-95) and WKZW-FM (94.3) and is the Pine Belt?s only locally-owned series of high-power radio stations.
?We are excited that Southern Miss and Rock 104 can continue to provide coverage of Southern Miss and Southern Miss athletics to the listeners of South Mississippi,? said Larry Blakeney, CEO and President of Blakeney Communications. ?Rock 104 is the station that rocks the Pine Belt and it?s only natural that we serve as the flagship station for the Rock Solid tradition of Golden Eagle athletics.?
WXRR-FM and the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network began the 2002-2003 year in early August with the Golden Eagle Hotline and the weekly call-in show which airs until Dec. 17, with Head Football Coach Jeff Bower. The one-hour show originates from Garfield?s Restaurant & Pub in Hattiesburg.
Bower?s Golden Eagle football team makes its 2002 debut on Aug. 31, when it hosts Jackson State at 6 p.m., at Roberts Stadium.
John Cox, a four-time Mississippi Sportscaster of the Year, will handle the play-by-play duties on the network again this season and will be joined by color commentator Vic Purvis and sideline reporter and locker room host Lance Pittman.
Each Southern Miss football broadcast begins one hour prior to the opening kickoff with the Golden Eagle Tailgate Show and Southern Miss Gameday and includes an exclusive talk with Bower.
Based in Winston-Salem, N.C., ISP Sports is the exclusive multimedia rights holder for 16 major Division I-A athletic programs. The company produces radio networks at Georgia Tech, Marshall, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, in addition to Southern Miss.
