Douglas Selected by Cleveland in MLB Draft
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss pitcher Shea Douglas was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the Major League Baseball 2002 First-year Player Draft, Wednesday, in New York.
The 6-2, 210-pound junior from Vicksburg, Miss., was the taken in the 32nd round by the Indians, as the 964th pick overall.
A three-year starter from Warren Central High School, Douglas has been one of the dominant pitchers on the Golden Eagles staff. In 2002, he put up career numbers in wins (10), strikeouts (108) and innings pitched (100.1).
Douglas was among the top pitchers in Conference USA this season and was selected to the all-conference first team. He became the first Southern Miss pitcher since 1991 to win 10 games in a season, and he also ranks in the top five in a number of school career pitching categories, including starts, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 36-22, and an 18-11 mark in Conference USA.
