Southern Miss Drops Conference Game To Cincinnati, 65-56
Southern Miss had its nine-game home win streak snapped, losing to Cincinnati, 65-56, Sunday. Southern Miss drops to 10-12 and 3-6, while Cincinnati improves to 17-4 and 6-3.
La'Tasha Sumerall led Southern Miss with 16 points. Cincinnati's Debbie Merrill led all scorers with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, and K. B. Sharp added 13 points.
Cincinnati used a 13-0 run over six minutes in the second half, building a 41-30 lead with 12:25 remaining. The Golden Eagles made a run, cutting the Bearcats' lead to five on two occasions, 56-51, and 58-53, but could get no closer.
There were eight ties and 12 different lead changes throughout the game. Southern Miss led at the half, 25-24.
Southern Miss finished the game shooting 35.2 percent from the field, while Cincinnati shot 42.1. The rebounds were tied at 39-39, a piece.
Southern Miss returns to action, Feb. 8, at TCU.
